How Do I Report Expired Options ?

You report expired options using a closing transaction of zero.

When you sell an option which expires worthless, your cost basis is zero, and your capital gain is the premium received.

When you buy an option that expires worthless, your sale price is zero, and your capital loss is the premium paid.

Use Form 8949 to report expired options.
